Spain main travel destination for Spaniards in September
Spain accounts for 43 percent of travel bookings for September, with ten of the fifteen most popular places in the Iberian nation, according to new data from travel booking site eDreams.
This figure reflects a preference for short staycations during in the after summer season.
When it comes to distance, 64 percent of bookings made from Spain for September are to nearby destinations, while medium distance accounts for 27 percent, and long distance is 9 percent, the same as last year.
After Spain, the most popular countries for Spaniards are Italy with 11 percent, France with six percent and the United Kingdom and Portugal, both with four percent of bookings.
Spanish Health Minister hopes migrant vaccination in Ceuta will begin next week
Health Minister Mónica García has announced a shipment of 45,000 vaccines which will be administered to the irregular migrant population of Ceuta starting next week "if the entire logistics chain allows it".
They include 15,000 doses of MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella), 10,000 of diphtheria-tetanus, 10,000 of chickenpox, and another 10,000 of polio.
The shipment was unanimously approved recently by all the Spanish regions, along with the Ministry.
The goal is to address the "health consequences" of the "humanitarian crisis" of the Ceuta mass crossing of late July, with fears of disease spreading among migrants camped out on the beaches and sleeping in the streets.
Tenerife registers a series of small earthquakes
The Canary Island of Tenerife recorded a series of four earthquakes this week in the waters off the north coast, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN). Although most of them were fairly small, the largest had a magnitude of 3.6 and could easily be felt.
This one was at a depth of 34 kilometres and was felt mostly in the northern city of La Laguna.
Two other earthquakes have been located at a similar depth of 35 and 36 kilometres, with magnitudes of 3.0 and 2.3, and a fourth was shallower at 16 kilometres with a magnitude of 2.8.
This comes just after several earthquakes were recorded last week in Granada.
Residents of El Saler in Valencia forced to evacuate due to wildfire
Authorities in the Valencian town of El Saler have ordered the evacuation of the town and nearby campsites as a precaution due to an advancing forest fire.
The fire broke out in the Gola de Pujol area in the Devesa forest and has already risen to a level 2, meaning it's a fire of concern.
Buses are on standby to transport residents to safer areas.
The Valencian government has also sent out alert messages to those with their own cars to follow road CV500 out of the town.
